Hello again...sorry for the update delay. After HGTV left I had to re-work my studio so I could get back to work on more projects. It is amazing how much stuff you actually have when you have to move it around & re-work it. I have more unfinished-I'll-get-around-to-it projects then I realized. I am always hoarding the recyclables for "future" use in some sculpture and I think I can now fill a whole garbage bag...not to throw them out BUT to have them all in one place.
Well I need to organize my next few things and get them underway. There will be a banquet for my daughters who are in Karate coming up and I have been asked to submit an art piece for the silent auction. (the banquet is in a week! YIKES) I kinda know what I want to do and after typing this I will go get to work. Details & photos later. ALSO last year I promised a distant family member a "Pin Babe" in the likeness of her daughter...I keep forgetting that...so I really need to get that done & sent out. Not to worry, I work better under pressure. Which brings me to my next big challenge:
ANOTHER PAPER DRESS CONTEST!
Yes that is right...once again I will be challenging myself to make 2 crepe paper gowns for the annual Harvard Illinois Milk Days festival. The contest is open to children who enter wearing an outfit in Prince(yes boys too!) or Princess style made completely out of crepe paper. They compete based on personality, garment construction, conformity to rules of construction, and color combination. ((If you look in my "gallery one" you will see examples of my winning gowns))
Last year my twin girls would have been old enough at 5 years old, but I decided to enter an artist studio tour that just happened to be on the same weekend as the competition, so I made a choice. We also use to live 25 minutes from Harvard, last year we moved and now we are an hour or so away. It is a slight deterrent but I am hoping this year for a little publicity from the newspaper about the event and tie it into my upcoming HGTV appearance (which I don't know the air date yet...sorry). Why publicity? While this contest is so my kids can be on stage in cute outfits I made and then be in a huge parade representing Milk Days (as princesses if they win...but, either way they will still be in the parade) BECAUSE...artists need to be seen in order to get popular...this is another self promotional way to be seen for my artistic abilities. Is it wrong? NOPE most news worthy stuff is depressing, I love to read success stories and talented people stuff.
As for the dresses I will be making I chose to work with the theme of this years celebration for the inspiration (I am known for that) "Get your kicks at Milk Days 66". for 66 years they have been celebrating the history of the highest milk production area in the USA during the war.(Harvard Milk Days History)
So I have chosen to create 2 dresses with the old Route 66 theme in color & style. Harvard Milk Days 66 will be seen throughout. Keep posted for progress pictures to come!!! The contest is in May and if you'd like to come out...e-mail me for details!
OK?? well e-mail me with questions, comments, or hey...SIGN THE GUEST BOOK! I will be in my studio if you need me...
