Hello everyone!
I survived a long day of TV shooting and boy are my cheeks tired...from all the smiling!
The "crew" for HGTV showed up at my house and began setting up in the basement around 3:30 yesterday. Christine Jagolino, and Celia were from Los Angeles but really enjoyed their run here in Chicago despite snowy conditions and chilled bones. Together with two hired local camera and sound guys...um...oh rats I forgot their names...SORRY GUYS!
They set out to capture me at my acting best (No pressure...AGH!!) I learned lots of things about the whole process that I really won't forget...here are a few:
1.) If you are going to be filmed working behind a table and you will be standing, be sure the table isn't a height that stops just below your...um...CROTCH. apparently this isn't an appealing height for zooming in! Most of my work surfaces will now be raised to waist height. I found it to be easier on my back too...thanks guys!
2.) "Greeking" in layman's terms it means to cover all product names that may end up in the shot. IE: If I am painting the label on the brand of paint I am using has to be covered. There isn't any money from product sponsores flowing here. I got extra cudos for greeking my treadmill...which never made it into the shot anyway.
3.) "Step-outs" for the HGTV people seemed to be really important! These are representations of the process involved in making a craft item. Let's just say that if you were to put them all together & film them, you could make a stop animation short film showing from beginning to end how to make something with out missing a beat. I had MORE than I needed and we went past some to get to others.
4.) "OK" this word is great for a cheerleader...bad to begin ever sentance with!...think about it...ok, now I am going to paint...ok, now I am going tolet this dry...and so on...UGH! I found this habit harder to break then saying the more popular word: LIKE!
5.) They loved "Process"...dip the paint brush again...now pick up the scissors & put them down, AGAIN...ha-ha!
But most of all it was the best experience I could have asked for! even though I had only one major set back:
While I would love to show exciting photos of my more than patient film crew from the shoot for HGTV...In all the excitement...
not once did I or anyone else
TAKE A SINGLE PICTURE DURING THE FILMING PROCESS!
no crew shots
no set up shots

BUT look on the bright side right?
In aproximately 9 months or so...I WILL BE ON HGTV!!
Yes I said I ...and the world...have to wait about 9 months before any of what really DID happen...right in my basement studio...will get to air on TV.
HOW COOL IS THAT??? WHAT A 40TH BIRTHDAY PRESENT!
